A Model to Emulate

MDC’s North Campus, working in collaboration with Foundations for Leadership and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS), recently hosted the Miami Model United Nations Conferences.

The Miami Model UN Conferences engage middle and high school students in an exploration of current world issues through interactive simulations. Students were encouraged to consider the issues deeply and to support respectful discourse. Their debate covered a range of issues on the UN agenda, including democratic governance and global literacy, as well as issues in the Middle East, in particular. Several hundred students participated in each of the two daylong conferences.

“Students were presented with the rare opportunity to learn and apply leadership, negotiation and presentation skills in simulations that mirror what takes place at the UN,” said North Campus President Dr. Malou C. Harrison.
