Medical Campus Commencement
The Administrators, Faculty and Staff at the Medical Campus of Miami Dade College extend their warmest congratulations for your achievement of completing your bachelors or associate degree, or certificate program.
The Commencement Ceremony
Commencement will be held on SATURDAY, May 4, 2013 at the Theodore R. Gibson Health Center (Gymnasium) at Kendall Campus of Miami Dade College located at 11011 SW 104th Street, Miami, FL 33176. GRADUATES SHOULD ARRIVE BY 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will be approximately 2 hours long.

Caps and Gowns
Pick up your cap, gown, name card and announcements at the Medical Campus Bookstore.
Monday, April 15th to Friday, May 3th.
Bookstore Hours:
Monday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m
Tues, Wed. & Thurs: 8:30 a.m. -4:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Caps and gowns are free to graduating students. Identification (course schedule, student ID, etc.) will be required in order to pick up items.
Graduates Arrival Time: 11:30 am
Graduates, please report to the Library Concourse Building 2 NO LATER THAN 11:30 a.m. You will line up by program. Bring your name card with you.
Who May Participate?
All students who completed degree requirements in December of 2012, or those students who have applied to graduate at the end of the Spring or Summer terms of 2013 may attend graduation.
Where Will Grads Line Up?
Graduates will line up on the main floor at the Library Concourse Building 2. Follow signs to Medical Campus Graduate Line Up. Line up with your program. If you are receiving two degrees line up with your Associate in Science or Bachelor program.
Conferring Of Degrees or Certificates
All students will be called to the stage. Students who will be receiving more than one degree will be called to the stage only once.
Note: You will not receive your diploma at the ceremony. After all of your grades are posted and following appropriate certification by the Advisement and Registrar’s Offices your diploma will be mailed to you.
All Financial Obligations Must Be Satisfied Prior To Receiving Your Diploma.
Loans and fines must be paid; equipment and library books must be returned prior to receiving your diploma. Please note that transcripts will not be sent to other institutions for graduates with any obligations.
Graduation With Honors
Graduates who have earned a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher at the end of the Fall term will be given special recognition (see criteria below). They will be noted by the issuance of special tassels. Special tassels will be distributed at Kendall Campus on May 4th, at the Registration Check-In.
Honors: MDC Cumulative GPA 3.5-3.69
Highest Honors: MDC Cumulative GPA 3.7 or higher
Honors and Distinction: MDC Cumulative GPA 3.5-3.69 and 15 credits in Honors courses
Highest Honors and Distinction: MDC Cumulative GPA 3.7 or higher and 15 credits in Honors courses.
Veteran Graduates
Graduates that are Veterans will be noted by the issuance of a special cord (red, white and blue). It will be distributed at the Kendall Campus on May 4th, at the Registration Check-In.
Photographs/Video
A professional photographer will photograph each graduate as he/she walks across the stage. Proofs will be sent to each graduate with instructions.
Please inform your family and friends to remain in their seats throughout the ceremony. They will not be permitted onto the main floor.
Dress Code
A black cap and gown must be worn by each student participating in the graduation ceremony. (See Caps and Gowns...for dates and times to pick up at the Bookstore.) Place your gown on a hanger several days prior to the ceremony. As Commencement is a formal academic ceremony, we recommend that you dress appropriately. It is suggested that men wear a solid color dress shirt dark tie, dark trousers, and black shoes. Women should wear a dress or black slacks with black shoes. Purses or photographic equipment cannot be carried in the processional and, therefore, should not be brought into the assembly area.
Directions And Parking
The Theodore R. Gibson Health Center (Gym) is located on the Kendall Campus of Miami Dade College, 11011 SW 104thStreet, Miami, FL 33176.
From the North via the Palmetto Expressway:
- Take SR 874 (Don Shula Expressway) from the Palmetto (Stay in the left lanes as you approach the Bird Road exit – sign says: “874 South-Homestead-Toll Road”).
- Exit at the SW 104 Street WEST (Killian Parkway) exit. (This is the first exit, remain in left exit lane) Turn RIGHT onto SW 104 Street.
- Continue to traffic signal at SW 113 Place (second traffic signal) and turn RIGHT.
From the South via the Florida Turnpike Extension:
- Take SR 874 (Don Shula Expressway) from the Turnpike. Exit at the SW 104th Street WEST (Killian Parkway) exit.
- Turn LEFT onto SW 104th Street. Take SR 874 (Don Shula Expressway) from the Turnpike.
- Exit at the SW 104th Street WEST (Killian Parkway) exit.
- Turn LEFT onto SW 104th Street. Continue to traffic signal at SW 113 Place (third traffic signal) and turn RIGHT.
- Continue to traffic signal at SW 113 Place (third traffic signal) and turn RIGHT.
Graduates With Special Needs
If you have a disability and need additional accommodations in order to participate in the ceremony, please contact the ACCESS Office, room 1113, phone 305-237-4416 by Friday, April 26th. An interpreter will sign the ceremony.
Guests (No Tickets Needed)
Tickets for admission to the ceremony are not needed. You may bring as many guests as you wish. Doors will open at 12:00 pm. The Ceremony will begin promptly at 1:00 pm. Guests arriving after the ceremony has started will be directed to the room 6120 (McCarthy Auditorium) where they can watch a real-time broadcast of the ceremony.
