The Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEISA) at the North Campus will host some of the top hit makers in the music industry.

Invited guests include:  DJ Khaled, Big Chuck of 24HourHipHop.com, The Shadyville DJs, DJ Epps, G-Unit among others, according to Perry Pierre, 23, MEISA president at North Campus.

The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 12 to 3 p.m., in Room 4207 (The M.J. Taylor Lounge); admission is free.

“We want to bring artists on campus to build relationships with people who are already in the field,” Pierre said.

The focus of the event, Pierre said, is to help students foster relationships that might lead to internships and other career opportunities

“DJ Khaled started this way,” said Pierre, referring to the host of TakeOver on WEDR, a Miami-based radio station. Khaled once worked as a "sidekick" for Miami rapper Luther Campbell on The Luke Show.

Students will have the opportunity to interact with a panel that has years of experience working in the music, media, visual arts and photography fields.  They will also hear what the industry wants from future employees and partners.

There will be a question-and-answer segment that will allow students to ask entertainment-related questions so they can to learn how businesses operate from the inside.

“I want a chance to gain information and probably internships from the people there,” said Emerson Fertil, 20, a radiography major who blogs about Hip Hop.

Pierre said that there will be information tables staffed with radio, film and media personnel who will distribute brochures and promotional products.

“Our main focus is on the student,” said Pierre, who sings, plays piano and writes songs.

“The network starts at school”
