MDC brings home awards

The North Campus student newspaper, The Falcon Times, received seven awards, including three first place honors, from the Florida Community College Press Association.
The awards were announced on Oct. 23 in Ocala, Florida.
Graphic design major Akeem Mayers, the Times’ cartoonist walked away with the best illustration, best editorial cartoon, and best comic strip in the state.
Mayers, a native of Trinidad, was also awarded an additional Inner Circle Award for receiving honors in three categories.
“I’m honored to know that my work got quite a bit of recognition, and it’s all thanks to The Falcon Times,” said Mayers. “I’m nowhere near as good as I intend to be, but winning these awards further motivates me to set the bar higher so I can reach my potential.”
The Metropolis, the student newspaper at the Wolfson Campus, won five awards including best sports column (Ignacio Rodriguez) and best design (Pedro Alvarez) and the Catalyst,(Kendall Campus ) won six awards including a first place prize for best news photography (Russell Quinoa).
The submissions were from the 2008-09 school year and judged in 18 categories.
