Architecture professor nabs award for student publication
Mario F. Ortega, associate professor of architecture will be honored at the 55th Annual American Institute of Architects Miami Design Gala Student Exhibition on Nov 21.
The event will be held at the Miami Event Space and will award Ortega the award for Writing about Architecture.
The winning entry, Miami Dade College Architecture Student Journal, A gathering of Architecture studentprojects was published last year.
Ortega’s contribution to the journal includes editing written concept assignments in Architecture Design 1 to 4 courses as well as architecture graphic presentations presented in class.
The Francisco Foundation Scholarship is currently accepting applications for the year 2010
All applicants are required to write a typed, double spaced, 1,100 word essay that explains what freedom means and the sacrifices that should be made to ensure the safeguarding of freedom and democracy.
Along with the essay, students are to include a copy of their most recent transcript, current resume, and two letters of recommendation.
The scholarship serves as a tribute to Rogelio “Francisco” Gonzalez Corzo, who was executed by Fidel Castro’s government in 1961.
Three scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,500, and the application deadline is Dec 3.
Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony with the Foundation Board on Jan 13.
