There's a big mystery afoot
By Monique Dos Anjos
If there is one film to catch this Christmas, it definitely has to be “Sherlock Holmes.” Although I’m not the biggest fan of Guy Ritchie, director of “Sherlock Holmes,” but Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes is crucial to the film’s success.
The cast also includes Jude Law, as Dr. John Watson, Rachel McAdams, as the love interest Irene Adler, and Mark Strong, as the evil Lord Blackwood. If you’re a fan of the man that uses logic as his weapon, then you will definitely enjoy watching Downey as he gives a more attractive appeal to the Sherlock Holmes character.
Guy Ritchie’s directing styles are like no one else’s. He uses the same format for a majority of his films; using flashbacks to thicken the plot of the film. Although it doesn’t always transition well with his other films, it works out great for “Sherlock Holmes.” Due to Holmes being a man of logic, the flashback scenes provide much needed information, such as how he figures out the place and name of a person without having to do a double-take.
The chemistry between Downey and Law are that of a quarreling old couple. It is enjoyable to watch because you know that they will still support each other no matter what. Their friendship speaks volumes.
Downey is the 21st century version of “Indiana Jones.” He always adapts to his roles and the character details, which is why “Sherlock Holmes” is a must see if you care for good quality acting.
