Dalai Lama back to South Florida after six years
The Dalai Lama will return to South Florida this February to deliver speeches at Nova Southeastern University on Feb. 23 and at Florida Atlantic University on Feb. 24.
He will also meet with presidents from South Florida colleges and universities at Broward College on Feb. 24, for a discussion focused on ``Responsibilities of Higher Education in Today's Global Society.''
In 1999, he visited Florida International University, and stayed for five days in 2004 when he gave speeches at Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University, the University of Miami, and the BankAtlantic Center.
Business students to assist during tax time
Miami Dade College business students will assist local residents in preparing their tax forms as a part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).
The tax preparation service started on Feb. 2 and will continue through April 6. The tax service will be provided at all eight MDC campuses and the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center. At the North Campus, the tax services will be offered between 4p.m. and 7p.m. in the computer courtyard in Room 2201.
VITA is a free program that is administrated and staffed by faculty and business students of MDC. It was launched by the Internal Revenue Service in an effort to aid individuals who need assistance preparing their tax forms.

Medical campus presents fifth annual community health fair
The Medical Center Campus will present its fifth annual Community Health Fair, on Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering free medical, vision and dental screenings.
The event will include glucose, glaucoma, and cholesterol tests, with information on nutrition, heart disease, cancer prevention.
On hand will be health professionals from the Florida Pharmacy Association to answer questions relative to screening results.
Free shuttle transportation will be available at the Culmer Metrorail station. To schedule an appointment, call 305-237-4209.
