College Prep Department holds Writing Contest
The North Campus will hold its 11th annual College Prep Writing Contest for students currently enrolled in a college prep reading or writing course or students previously enrolled in the fall 2009.
The deadline for submissions is March 12 at 4 p.m.; contest winners will be announced on March 17.
Students are asked to discuss the quote from Robert Frost: “We come to college to get over our little mindedness.” The entry should be four to five paragraphs, and related to the writer’s experience.
The competition is sponsored by Bedford St. Martens Publishers will award the first place winner $200; second place $100; and third place $50. For more information contact professor Sabrina Walters at (305)237-1110.
Miami Heraldreporter to kick-off Women’s History Month
The opening ceremony for this year’s Women’s History Month will feature Miami Herald reporter Elinor Brecher on March 9
Brecher, who was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1993, will speak to students and faculty about working in a male dominated field. The event will take place in Room 2151 at 10 a.m.
College Board awards college
Miami Dade College was awarded by the College Board for the implementation of its 10 learning outcomes.
The college is now the recipient of the CollegeKeys Compact 2010 Innovation Award.
The 10 learning outcomes were first implemented in fall 2007, and is now a staple in many professors’ syllabi.
Wolfson student makes waves on American Idol
Music major Michelle Delamor, has advanced to the top 24 on this year’s season of American Idol.
Delamor, a student at the Wolfson Campus has performed at several local events in the Miami area including, Zo’s Summer Groove 2008 and Summer Fest 2008 at the BankAtlantic Center.
She is a 2006 graduate of Miami Beach Senior High.
