Full-time: Approximately two and half months
The Basic Corrections Academy is 420 contact hours at two and half months, Monday – Friday, 7:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. Class hours do change during the training to achieve certain objectives. On graduation and passing of the State Officer Certification Examination, you are considered a certified correctional officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 19 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen
- Have a valid Florida Driver's License
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Successfully completed the basic corrections FBAT (Florida Basic Abilities Test) or CJBAT ( Criminal Justice Abilities Test)
- Background/Criminal History check
- Capable of participating in moderate physical fitness and defensive tactics activity
- Additional requirements may be necessary. Final review by School of Justice Administration. Applicants are scheduled for Training at the discretion of School of Justice staff.
