Faculty Support

Information literacy, one of Miami Dade College's ten General Education Learning Outcomes, refers to an individual's ability to "formulate strategies to locate, evaluate, and apply information." The MDC Libraries are committed to facilitating the incorporation of information literacy into the College curriculum, and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in all disciplines.

MDC faculty members are encouraged to:

• Schedule their classes for a Library instruction session.
• Partner with a librarian to form a learning community with LIS 1001 (Introduction to Library Research) or LIS 2004 (Introduction to Internet Research), or to have a librarian embedded in a course.
• Participate in library collection development.
• Place course materials on reserve.
• Earn professional development credit by attending a CT&D workshop on information literacy.

The individual campus libraries may offer additional resources and/or services for faculty. The North Campus Library, for example, maintains a helpful directory of grant resources. For assistance with any of your campus library's resources or services, visit or call the reference desk to speak with a faculty librarian.
