The Domínguez Code

Dr. Alvio Domínguez, associate professor of mathematics on Wolfson Campus, has been teaching in the Miami Dade College department of mathematics for seven years. His dedication to educating his students extends far beyond the classroom and is exemplified in his role as the lead instructor for the Math Club.

Domínguez also coaches students to compete in two well-known annual competitions: the Math Olympics and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges’ math competition. In every year that his students have participated, at least one has earned an award of recognition in one or both of the prestigious contests.

For four straight years during his tenure, Domínguez received the certificate of recognition from Phi Theta Kappa – the International Honor Society of Two Year Colleges. He was also selected to be in both the 9th and 10th editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Domínguez earned his Ph.D. in mathematics while teaching full time – and was named the outstanding graduate student for the 2004-05 academic year. Likewise, he honors the finest mathematics student at the end of each academic year at MDC, an assignment he is honored to take part in.

Finally, Domínguez combined his heritage and his profession at the College’s most recent Hispanic Heritage celebration. Domínguez and the department of mathematics hosted the inaugural Math Forum where prominent Hispanic mathematicians presented their research.
