Miami, May 15, 2008 - In support of a thriving partnership, Aetna, one of the nation’s leading health care benefits company, presented a symbolic check of $107,500 to Miami Dade College (MDC) at its recent Board of Trustees meeting representing various amounts it has provided the college.

Aetna is an avid supporter of MDC programs and cultural events. The funds provided support for the Miami International Film Festival, New World School of the Arts Summer Camp, the MDC Community Health Fair, and MDC Hall of Fame.

Orlando Mendoza, Aetna vice president for strategic development, presented the check and took the opportunity to thank MDC administrators, staff and students.

“If it wasn’t for you, I would not be here,” he said. “I thank you and I applaud you all.”

Aetna was named FORTUNE Magazine's most admired company in the Health Care: Insurance and Managed Care category for 2008 and won the Institute for Healthcare Advancement's 2008 Health Literacy Award in the "research" category for its Asthma Health Literacy study, among many other awards and recognitions.
