MDC President Receives Henry M. Flagler Award from the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce

Miami, June 5, 2008 - Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, president of Miami Dade College (MDC) was recognized during the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Goals Conference with the Henry M. Flagler Award for visionary leadership. He received the award Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa during the “Salute to Miami’s Leaders” reception and dinner. The award is one of the Chamber’s most prestigious named after Miami’s founding father. 

“Thanks to Miami Dade College and its wonderful employees and students, I’ve received several important awards during my career. However, this one is very special because it will be presented right here in our community and it comes from the Chamber, which is composed of so many exemplary business leaders,” said Dr. Padrón. “I am truly honored.”

Dr. Padrón has received numerous awards and recognitions during his four decade career including the highest honors from several nations, four U.S. Presidential appointments and numerous distinctions from his peers in higher education. Most recently, he received the 2008 Boston Consulting Group - Poder magazine Excellence in Education Award, the 2008 Reginald Wilson Diversity Award from the American Council on Education, the 2007 Monsignor Bryan O. Walsh Humanitarian Award from the Mercy Foundation and the 2007 Design Award from the American Institute of Architects for community leadership.

Previously, he received the 2005 Paul A. Elsner International Excellence in Leadership Award, Hispanic Magazine’s 2004 Hispanic Achievement Award in Education, and the Association of Community College Trustees’ 2002 Chief Executive of the Year Award, among other special distinctions.
