MDC 2008 Summer Camps
It’s never too early to take advantage of the many learning opportunities at the country’s largest higher learning institution. Whether dreaming of becoming rock stars or helping to save the planet, children of all ages will find their groove at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) 2008 Summer Camps. This year, camps focus on DNA analysis, television production, songwriting, music production and performance, exploring ecosystems and discovering nature, among many other activities.

Homestead Campus
Wild Adventures Camp - Ages 6-11, $110/week, Jun. 9 - Aug. 8
A fun-filled camp for children ages 6 to 11, where they can enjoy art, music, crafts, reading, math, computers, and games. Programs are designed to enrich the lives of young people by helping them develop confidence and self-esteem in a safe, challenging and fun environment. The fee is $110. Lunch and snacks included. Kendall Campus
Kids/Teen College – Ages 7-12, $110/class, $179/2week, Jun. 9-Aug. 1
An educational yet fun environment where kids, teens and parents can customize their schedule and choose classes they like most! Kids and teens can attend in the morning or afternoon, or spend the entire day. Courses include: Chefs Around the World: Latin Cuisine; Salsa/Merengue Dance, It's a Musical, Keyboarding and MS Office Basic, Robots Using LEGO, Modeling for Teens, Scrapbooking, Cartooning and many, many more.
Note: Students spending the day at the College, except those registered for “Before and After Care”, should bring a bagged lunch.
Rock Camp USA - Ages 11-18, $595, Jul. 21 - Aug. 2
Now in its 13th year, Rock Camp USA features intensive performance-oriented instruction given by some of the finest professional musicians in the country. This once-in-a-lifetime class is two weeks long and culminates with the young rockers giving a live performance at Tobacco Road in downtown Miami. First session is from July 7 to 19. The second session begins July 21 until Aug. 2. The fee is $595 (sibling discount price of $450). The program is open for students ranging from 11 to 18 years of age. Space is limited. Science and Nature Summer Camp - Ages 6-11, $185/week, Jun. 9 - Aug. 8
Children will explore science and nature concepts in a unique, nine-acre environmental preserve. Activities include swimming, games, arts and crafts, computers, science experiments, and field trips (additional fee required for field trips). The program is open for students ranging from 6 to 11 years of age (strictly enforced). The fee is $185 ($150 for week of 6/30). Lunch is included. Summer Volleyball Camp - Girls Ages 10-18, $145 / $185, Jun. 30 - Jul. 3 / Jul. 7- 11
Daily instruction includes emphasis on individual volleyball skills with a focus on the fundamentals of setting, passing, serving, hitting, blocking, and floor defense. Camp also covers fundamentals of team play-offense, defense, and complete team training. MDC employees receive a $15 discount on week 1 and a $30 discount on week 2.

Wild Things Happen Summer Camp - Ages 5-11, $149/week, Jun. 9 - Aug. 8
Children ages 5-11 will enjoy activities that include: computers, arts & craft, reading for fun, pool activities, dancing, indoor games, and other exciting things! The fee is $149 ($125 for week of 6/30. Field trips, lunch and snack included. Camp begins Monday, June 9, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and runs through Aug. 8. North Campus
MDC Productions Camp - Ages 11-14, $255, Jun. 16 - Jul. 3
Young ones can learn how to make CD, DVD and graphic arts projects at the MDC Productions Camp, which runs from Jun. 16 to Jul. 3. The fee is $255 per child and includes a camp T-shirt and mid-day snack. For more information, please call (305) 237-8250.
CSI Camp - Ages 11-14, $255, Jul. 7 - Jul. 25
For all those sleuths ages 11 to 14, the North Campus will be offering a CSI camp to learn how to solve crimes like on the popular TV show. The CSI Camp runs from Jul. 7 to 25. The fee is $255 per child. For more information, please call (305) 237-8250.
Kidscene Summer Camp - Ages 5-10, $125/week, Jun. 9 - Aug. 8
A fun and safe camp for children ages 5-10. Your child will participate in theme-based activities in technology, the environment and the arts, as well as enjoy sports, dance, arts and crafts, swimming and weekly field trips. The cost for each camp is $125 per child. Registration fee includes a camp T-shirt, lunch, and afternoon snack. Sibling discount available. Camp begins Monday, June 9, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and runs through Aug. 8. There is a mandatory orientation on 5/22 or 5/29 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. For more information, please call (305) 237-1019.

Teatro Prometeo Theatre
Los Prometeitos Summer Theatre Camp - Ages 7-12, $150/week, Jun. 9-27
This is the camp for future actors! Children ages 7 through 12, can register for this Spanish-language camp at the renowned Teatro Prometeo Theater. There are three 30-hour sessions starting on June 9, June 16 and June 23. Registration for all three sessions is only $400 per child, or $150 per child per week. Campers will have the chance to learn acting techniques from respected instructors in a very dynamic and innovative setting. There will be performances at the end of each session. Space is limited. Wolfson Campus
Summer Arts Academy at New World School of the Arts - 11th & 12th Graders, $600, Jun. 9-20
Students in 11th and 12th grades who wish to hone their skills in dance, music, theater, and visual arts will obtain personalized guidance from professional artists and faculty members. The two-week camp runs June 9 through 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individual cost is $600. Scholarships are available. For more information, please call (305) 237-3472.
All the camps will allow children and students to enjoy their summer vacation in a fun and safe environment. Fees are subject to change without notice and courses may be canceled due to insufficient enrollment. The camp will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
