Painting X by Xavier Portilla
Miami, Monday, June 23, 2008 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) West Campus and the City of Doral Cultural Affairs Advisory Board proudly present an art exhibition by emerging Miami artists representing different venues of the Americas and the Caribbean. Art Bridge: A Selection of Miami Artists from the Americas will open Friday, June 27, with a reception starting at 6:30 p.m. at the campus’ West Art Gallery.
Art Bridge will feature work by Xavier Portilla (Ecuador), Ian Woods “Bosque” (Brazil), Hector Catà (Cuba), Cristina Chacon (Colombia), Josevelio Rodriguez (Cuba), Ana Cardina Moreno (Venezuela), Armando Roblan (Cuba), Mireya Melgar (Mexico), and Luis Pardini (Cuba), among others. These artists work in a wide variety of styles, including abstract, magical realism, figurative, and Latin pop culture.
The West Art Gallery opened in November 2007 as the first public art gallery in the City of Doral. Its first exhibition, The Surface – Beneath and Beyond, featured an amazing selection of cutting-edge, contemporary work by Miami artists, such as Nina Surel, Donna Lee Steffens, Javier Gonzalez, and Luis Garcia-Nerey, among others.
This summer, the gallery will also present video projections on Latin American art movements and trends on Thursdays, July 17 and 31, from noon to 4 p.m. The screenings are part of the West Campus and MDC Art Gallery System Urban Culture Lab program. Attendees are encouraged to bring lunch and stay for question/answer sessions.
Art Bridge will remain on display through August 1. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free and on-site parking is available.
