Miami, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 - The Miami-Dade County League of Cities recently awarded three scholarships to Miami Dade College (MDC) students. Rose-Taina Honorat, Gershom Jones and Christian Moreno were nominated by MDC faculty to receive the League of Cities scholarships, a program now in its second year. The three winners were also granted internships at various government offices throughout the county.

“We want to get students involved in government,” said Richard Kuper, executive director for the Miami-Dade County League of Cities and an MDC alumnus. “It’s a way to help students with their education and give them a little motivation to learn the inner workings of government.”

Honorat is an MDC Honors College student at the Wolfson campus originally from Haiti. Once she finishes at MDC, she plans to study law. She is the campus’ student government association treasurer. World hunger, especially in her homeland, is an issue she hopes to tackle.

Jones is also an Honors College student studying at North Campus. He has a keen interest in business and international relations and has participated in national meetings and important student clubs.

Moreno is an Honors College student at the Kendall Campus majoring in political science and finance. He is the campus’ student government association president. He also enjoys running and singing in a band.

The scholarships were for $1,000 each.
