Latin Jazz Giants to Heat Things Up at MDC Kendall Campus’ 2nd Annual Latin Jazz Festival Presented by Geico

Miami, November 14, 2008 - For a second consecutive year, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus' annual Latin Jazz Festival is sold out. Last fall, some of the world’s most renowned Latin jazz musicians took the stage at the inaugural festival. Arturo Sandoval, Nestor Torres, Ed Calle, Richie Bravo, Negroni’s Trio, and Roberto Perera were among the performers who dazzled the crowd. This year, headliners include Albita, Paquito Hechavarria, Federico Britos, Palo!, and Edwin Bonilla at the Second Annual Latin Jazz Festival, presented by GEICO, on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the campus’ Fred Shaw Plaza. The working media is welcome.

The concert is the flagship event of the Kendall Campus’ Fall Fest 2008 (www.mdc.edu/fallfest08) which includes numerous cultural and educational events taking place from Nov. 17 through 22. In addition to the concert, there will be a special tribute to late music legend Israel “Cachao” Lopez. The college and the musicians will recognize his daughter, Maria Elena Lopez, who has also been invited to perform.

It is also important to note that, as a result of last year’s successful inaugural concert, MDC recently launched the first of its kind Latin Jazz Institute. Numerous classes and seminars are being offered to the public and being taught by many of the legends above including two-time Latin Grammy nominee and MDC music professor, Ed Calle.
