Miami, November 17, 2008 - The second collaboration between Miami Dade College (MDC), through its renowned Art Gallery System, and Spain’s Caixanova Bank will bring another master of Western art to the Freedom Tower. Salvador Dalí's series, The Divine Comedy, will be open to the public from December 3 – January 31, 2009.

From 1951 to 1954, Dali worked on water colors for a planned commemorative series commissioned by the Italian government to honor the 700th birthday of one of Italy’s greatest poets, Dante Alighieri. The Divine Comedy consists of 100 prints for each canto, plus one cover print. The series is part of Caixanova’s renowned art collection.

The Divine Comedy follows the successful collaboration between MDC and Caixanova to bring the complete, never-before-seen in Florida etchings of Francisco de Goya y Lucientes to the Freedom Tower last fall. Record crowds attended for a chance to see more than two hundred of Goya’s most controversial and powerful works. Several critics noted that the Goya exhibition was one of the best of the year in Miami-Dade County

Gallery hours for the Dalí exhibition at the Freedom Tower will be as follows:  Closed Dec. 20 - 25. Special holiday hours: Dec. 26, noon - 5 p.m., Dec. 27, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Jan. 2, noon - 5 p.m., Jan. 3, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Jan. 6 through Jan. 31, regular gallery hours will apply: Tuesday - Friday, noon until 5 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the Dalí and Goya exhibitions, the Freedom Tower, since generously donated to MDC by the Martin Family and Terra Group, has been the site of numerous important cultural and educational events. Earlier this year, in collaboration with Spain’s National Theatre Museum, the college hosted an exhibition of the costumes used in playwright Calderón de la Barca’s works. The Freedom Tower was also the site of interactive conversations with the former Prime Minister of Spain, the Honorable José María Aznar, and respected authors Tom Wolfe and Tom Gjelten.
