Pulitzer Prize-winning Reporter Featured in Upcoming MDC Journalism Speaker Series

Edna Buchanan

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and bestselling author Edna Buchanan

Miami, March 20, 2009 - Many of the world’s renowned authors’ first love has been journalism. Such was the case for Edna Buchanan, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who covered the police beat for The Miami Herald for 18 years. She is also the author of 18 books and numerous short stories.

Buchanan will speak at the Miami Dade College (MDC) Journalism Speaker Series on Thursday, Mar. 26, at 9:50 a.m. at the North Campus, located at 11380 N.W. 27 Ave, in the Lehman Theatre (Room 5120). This event is free and open to the public.

Credited for revolutionizing police reporting, Buchanan has covered more crimes than most cops. She is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for Crime Reporting and a George Polk Award for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism, among many other prestigious awards and recognitions. Her most recent novel, “Legally Dead,” was released August 2008 and became an instant bestseller.

Now in its second year, the Speaker Series continues to bring students at MDC face-to-face with working journalists. Each program includes a presentation by the journalists and a 15-minute question and answer session.
