MDC Provost Appointed Chair of Bank of Florida’s Miami-Dade County Advisory Board

Miami, July 15, 2009 - For nearly 50 years, Miami Dade College (MDC) employees have not only made contributions in the classroom, but also in the community. In fact, community involvement and civic engagement have been cornerstones at MDC with its administration leading by example.
The college’s leaders presently serve on important local, statewide and national boards. Recently, MDC provost, Dr. Rolando Montoya, was appointed the chair of the Miami-Dade County Advisory Board of Bank of Florida by its Southeast Board of Directors.
“Dr. Montoya’s many years of experience and excellent leadership have made him an ideal individual for this position,” said Roberto Pelaez, president of Bank of Florida of Miami-Dade County.
An employee of the college since 1987, Dr. Montoya has served in the positions of professor, department chairperson, dean of academic affairs, and president of the Wolfson Campus. In addition, he is a Certified Management Accountant and Certified Financial Manager.
As provost, he performs the functions of chief academic and operating officer including oversight of the college’s human resources, facilities management, information technology, business operations, academic and student affairs. His services as a professor were recognized with the Carlos Arboleya/NationsBank and the Sun Trust Bank endowed teaching chairs, the highest faculty honors.
In addition to serving on the Miami-Dade County Advisory Board of Bank of Florida, Dr. Montoya currently serves as board member of Miami Downtown Development Authority, New World School of the Arts, South Florida Center for Financial Training, and The Chair Academy, among other organizations.
Before his employment at the College he served as a business executive in the fields of finance and accounting and as the Consul General of Costa Rica in Miami. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in finance, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration.
