Miami Dade College North Campus Receives a Quarter of a Million Dollar Grant Award from the Florida Department of Education

Miami, August 11, 2009 - The Florida Department of Education, Division of Workforce Education, Adult Education and Family Literacy-State Leadership, English Literacy/Civics Education, just announced a significant grant award to Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus to support Community Education’s English Literacy and Civics Education Project in the amount of $250,000 for a period of one year.
The English Literacy and Civics Education Project will provide support for predominantly minority institutions in effecting long-range improvement in English language learners incorporating English literacy and civics education.
“This grant will guarantee the continuation of the College’s commitment to the citizens of Miami-Dade County. MDC will continue to provide an extensive curriculum targeting English language, workplace success, citizenship, and civic participation through the Community Education Department at the North Campus,” said José A. Vicente, president, MDC North Campus.
MDC has significantly expanded its resource development efforts, securing millions of dollars in grants from all levels of government.
These programs, linked to civics education, help individuals of limited English proficiency achieve competence in the English Language.
