Miami Dade College to Launch Trailblazing Law Enforcement Auxiliary Training Program

Miami, September 15, 2009 - Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus’ nationally renowned School of Justice will be offering the first Law Enforcement Auxiliary Officer Basic Recruit Training Program in South Florida.  Two 319-hour schedules will provide students with college credits, while continuing the mission of MDC of providing innovative community-based programs.  In fact, more than 90 percent of the region’s law enforcement officers have trained at MDC’s School of Justice.  MDC also offers a Bachelors of Science in Public Safety Management.

“The Law Enforcement Auxiliary Officer Basic Recruit Training Program is an initiative that is a first in the South Florida area.  Once again, MDC is on the forefront of meeting the workforce training needs with the highest quality and innovative programs possible,” said Dr. José A. Vicente, president of MDC’s North Campus.

The new program has been tailored to afford the citizens of Miami-Dade County the opportunity to become involved with their local law enforcement agencies as sworn Law Enforcement Auxiliary Officers volunteering to protect and serve in their communities.

Each 319-hour academy will cost $1,600.  The cost will include all college credit courses, books and materials, uniforms, training, and a complete background check. All training will be conducted by state and nationally recognized instructors.  The first program will be an 8-week academy commencing on Oct. 27, 2009 with classes meeting Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The second program will be a 5-month academy commencing on Nov. 3 with classes meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Those interested in either schedule must attend a mandatory orientation on Oct. 12, at 9:00 a.m., at the School of Justice located at 11380 NW 27 Avenue, Building 8000, Room 8333.
