Miami Dade College Kendall Campus’ Student Literary Magazine Nabs Coveted Award
Miami, September 14, 2009 - Miami Dade College (MDC) Kendall Campus’ student literarymagazine, Miambiance, has been selected by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) from nearly 100 entries as one of 20 finalists in the Magazine Pacemaker competition. Since 1927, the Pacemaker has been one of the highest honors in collegiate media contests.
The finalists in the literary magazine competition were selected by the American Poetry Journal based on excellence in content; quality of writing and editing; photography, art and graphics; layout/design; and overall concept or theme. All finalists will be honored at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention Oct. 31, 2009, in Austin, Texas.
“This honor goes to a very deserving staff who took a chance that this earth-friendly, more biodegradable issue would work out without the shine magazines usually require. Kudos to Nicole Fernandez, who as the editor-in-chief, practically lived in the Miambiance office, along with Jessica Valdes and Elizabeth Cole in order to realize the vision the Volume 19 staff shared,” said Prof. Marta Magellan, Miamibiance co-adviser
"The staff of Miambiance is honored and excited to be among Pacemaker finalists. Knowing others appreciate our creativity, content and vision is a terrific accomplishment,” added Nicole Fernandez, editor-in-chief of Miambiance.
Miambiance is a renowned student publication that has received several awards and distinctions including top honors from the Florida Community College Press Association and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
