Students throughout Miami Dade College are singing praises.

Miami, September 2, 2009 - Students throughout Miami Dade College (MDC) are singing songs of praise about the various departments and services available to them across the College.  The lyrics from that composition have been “noted” for all to see in a recent Enrolled Student Survey.

Students say they appreciate the College’s affordability and accessibility and, therefore, attribute cost and location as their top reasons for choosing MDC.  Ninety-two percent of students are satisfied with MDC overall. The survey also revealed that 75 percent of lower division and 68 percent of baccalaureate students said MDC was their first choice when choosing an institution of higher education.

The periodic surveys are conducted by the College’s department of Institutional Research for the purpose of assessing the quality of services and student experiences at MDC.  The surveys also help monitor changes over time and assess the impact various departments are having on students.  The top five highest-rated departments were the library, student life, cultural programs, testing and the Bursar’s Office.

“We conduct these surveys because we know that student voices matter. Students’ opinions and perceptions help us understand how to change and improve. We take these survey results very seriously and use them extensively to improve the college experience,” said Dr. Joanne Bashford, associate provost for Institutional Research.

The testing was conducted by selecting random credit classes on each campus to ensure confidence in results.  Testing departments and participating faculty administered the survey in class. Two survey forms were created for lower and upper division students.  These tests are administered every two years.
