Miami, November 17, 2009 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus is hosting an exhibition of Florida landscape paintings by acclaimed South Florida artist Luis Nunez. The Celebrating the Florida Landscape exhibition will be presented through Wednesday,Dec. 23, 2009 at the Library Art Space Gallery at the Homestead Campus.

The exhibition will showcase some of Florida’s most captivating sites as depicted in Nunez’ work —from the lush subtropical south to the sober temperate northern part of this unique and unusually beautiful part of the world.

“I’ve worked hard and I’m excited to unveil some of my new paintings at this show,” said Nunez.  “So far, I’m very pleased how it is coming along.”  Nunez, who holds a bachelor of fine arts from FIU, will also display a few of his older works. He added: “I’ve added a few of my old favorites to complement this exhibition.

”Few people can capture on canvas the light, colors and mood of the Florida landscape as Luis can,” said Adam Fryman, who owns several of Nunez’ paintings. “His work seems to come naturally. He makes it look easy.”

Nunez certainly seems to have taken advantage of his surroundings for showcasing his talent. “I feel blessed to have national parks, many national and state preserves and innumerable state parks right in my back yard,” said Nunez. “The variety and diversity of landscapes in Florida is truly amazing and it is all here for me to paint. I love it.”

The exhibition will be open during the Homestead Campus’ library operating hours, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free of charge.
