Fed Grants Conference-NorthCampus

Miami, November 18, 2009 - MiamiDade College’s (MDC) North Campus and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Hispanic Serving Institutions National Program will host a NationalFederal Grants Conference for representatives of Hispanic-serving institutions and community-based organizations on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (EST). The conference will also be streamed live to institutions and organizations nationwide.

The theme for this year’s conference is "Partners for Success" and it will explore how government, academia, and community organizations can collaborate to overcome challenges and achieve success.  Participants will have an opportunity to interact with federal officials and learn about government funding opportunities available to their institutions and organizations.

“We are very pleased and honored to host this very timely conference at Miami Dade College’s North Campus,” said Dr. José A. Vicente, president, MDC North Campus. “The Obama Administration has clearly conveyed the message on the critical role of our nation’s colleges and community organizations in the recovery of the economy. Federal grant funding opportunities help accelerate this process.”

“It is important for government, education and community leaders to cultivate strategic partnerships to solve many of the challenges facing our nation,” said Maria Goldberg, executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program. “The Federal Grants Conference is designed to inform leaders of educational institutions and community organizations about government funding opportunities.”

Participating government agencies include the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.
