MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents Jazz Trumpeter Terell Stafford Feb. 17

Jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford will perform live during the monthly Jazz at Wolfson concert series on Feb. 17, 2010.
Miami, February 9, 2010 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department will continue its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, featuring jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford.
Stafford has been hailed as “one of the great players of our time and a fabulous trumpet player” by piano legend McCoy Tyner.
Known for being a gifted and versatile player with a voice all his own, Stafford combines lyricism and a deep love of melody with a spirited, adventurous edge.
This uniquely expressive, well-defined musical talent allows Stafford the ability to dance in and around the rich trumpet tradition of his predecessors while making his own inroads.
Stafford has recorded five albums as a leader, including the critically acclaimed Taking Chances, and is heard on more than 80 albums as a sideman.
An educator and performer, he is a professor of music and director of jazz studies at Temple University in Philadelphia. Stafford was born in Miami and raised in Chicago and Silver Springs, MD.
He received a bachelor of science in music education from the University of Maryland in 1988 and a master of music from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 1993.
The MDC Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from September through April. The concerts are free and open to the public.
