MDC Cultura del Lobo Series Brings Chilean Theater to Miami
Miami, January 27, 2010 - Chilean theater company, Teatro en el blanco, brings to Miami a dark comedy about the reality of war and its power to transform domestic life. The interactive performance, Diciembre, is presented by Miami Dade College’s (MDC) celebrated Cultural del Lobo Performance Series on February 19 - 20 at the Byron Carlyle Theater in Miami Beach.
Diciembre is set in Santiago, Chile, on Christmas Eve 2014. A family is torn when pregnant twin sisters, each with different views on nationalism and war, welcome home their brother, a young soldier n a 24-hour leave during a war between Chile and Peru. One wants him to defect; the other demands his return to battle, while the brother has his own take on the matter.
Teatro en el blanco, or theater that “hits its target,” is comprised of three compelling actors and playwright Guillermo Calderon. This performance is part of a multi-city tour supported by the National Performance Network’s (NPN) Performing Americas Program, for which MDC Cultural Affairs has served as curator since 2007.
The 2009-10 Cultura del LoboPerformance Series continues MDC's tradition of bringing the newest, most challenging, contemporary work to the community that explores both the uniqueness of different cultures and how they interact with one another. The Series is an MDC initiative through its Cultural Affairs Department. Cultura del Lobo (Culture of the Wolf) was originally conceived as a play on the name of the college's downtown Wolfson Campus and the adventurous spirit of its programs. Past performers include Branford Marsalis, Inbal Pinto Dance Company, Marc Bamuthi, McCoy Tyner, Paquito D'Rivera, and many other acclaimed artists. In addition, the artists have taught master classes.
The performance will be in Spanish with English supertitles.
