Miami Dade College Presents 5th Annual Community Health Fair
Miami, January 29, 2010 - Miami Dade College (MDC) will once again offer free medical, dental and vision screenings to hundreds in the community at its popular Fifth Annual Community Health Fair, sponsored by Aetna, which will take place at the college’s Medical Center Campus, located in the heart of the city’s medical district, on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fair, free and open to all ages, will include glaucoma, glucose and cholesterol tests, some mammograms, information on nutrition, heart disease, cancer prevention, a blood drive, and so much more. This year’s new event will be a “Stress Relief Zone” that will include free chair massages and more.
In addition, on-site pharmacists from the Florida Pharmacy Association will provide medical information as well as bone density screenings. Various other health professionals will be on hand to follow-up with individuals who have questions relative to their health screening results.
The fair strives to provide health information and services to those who might not otherwise have access to regular medical attention.
“This year’s annual event will showcase a range of health screening services and educational activities that lead to a healthier lifestyle and overall well-being,” said Medical Center Campus President Dr. Anita Kaplan.
An event for the entire family, the fair will also feature a children’s corner with face painting, balloons, bounce house, arts and crafts and more.
The Medical Center Campus has a long history of community involvement. In fact, last year, it opened a medical clinic in Wynwood for the underserved. In addition, it has organized numerous missions to Haiti, the Dominican Republic and other nations for its students and faculty to treat the indigent while gaining first-hand experience.
Free shuttle transportation to the fair will be available at the Culmer Metrorail Station, 701 N.W. 11 St., Miami, beginning at 8 a.m. To schedule free transportation to the fair, call 305-237-4209.
