MDC Advancing Green Jobs Training in South Florida with Solar Panel Installation Course
Miami, July 20, 2010 - The growing demand for green jobs to create a more sustainable future has prompted training in solar, wind, biomass, hydrogen, and fuel cell industries, among other areas. To this end, Miami Dade College’s Green Technology Institute at the North Campus is offering courses on Photovoltaic Design and Installation, or solar electric training (panel installation). MDC is one of the few institutions in South Florida offering this training.
The 40-hour entry level solar electric training course, scheduled for Aug. 16-20, provides students and working professionals with basic knowledge of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, modules, system components, electrical circuits, PV system design, code requirements, solar electric products and applications, and much more. It also focuses on providing real-world, hands-on experience, knowledge of safety and construction issues, and inspection procedures.
Courses are taught by ONTILITY, a Houston-based provider of energy efficient products, services, training, and technologies and follow the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality standards. Those who complete the course qualify to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Entry Level Exam.
Additional courses offered include:
August 20 - Entry Level NABCEP Entry Level Exam Review
August 25-27 - Advanced Solar Design
August 28-29 - NABCEP Certified PV Installer Exam Prep
Sept. 13-17 - Solar Thermal Design and Installation
