MDC North Campus to Host International Young Medalist Performance as Part of the International Ballet Festival of Miami

Miami, August 30, 2010 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus’ Lehman Theater will host the International Young Medalist Performance, part of the International Ballet Festival of Miami, on Friday, September 3. This will be the first major performance in the newly renovated theater and is made possible through a collaboration with the Miami Hispanic Ballet.
The performance will feature close to 25 young medal winners of international ballet competitions, in collaboration with Youth America Grand Prix.
Now in its 15th year, the International Ballet Festival of Miami brings together the world’s most prestigious dance companies in a series of performances throughout Miami-Dade County. The two-week Festival consists of ballet performances, workshops, a dance film series, an art exhibition and master classes. Various renowned national and international ballet companies are represented by their greatest stars, bringing the moving passion of ballet to local audiences. Miami Dade College, a cultural beacon for most of its 50-year history, is one of the venues proudly offering performances of this acclaimed festival.
“This is a golden opportunity for the Miami community to appreciate the international up-and-coming talent in ballet. MDC, North Campus, with its newly renovated state of the art Complex of the Arts is proud to collaborate in promoting the arts with this presentation during the International Ballet Festival of Miami,” said Dr. Jose A. Vicente, North Campus President.
During its 50th anniversary, the North Campus of Miami Dade College is going through an arts renaissance. During this renaissance period, the William and Joan Lehman theater went through a major renovation encompassing not only the creation of a new backstage green room, but a new stage with orchestra pit, curtains, flooring, seating, a state of the art in technology control booth, and a studio theater. Stay tuned this year as this renaissance is put in motion with exhibits and presentations ranging from classical ballet to a Federico Garcia Lorca theater play series, to film presentations, to new sculpture installations in the Miami International Sculpture Park, gallery art exhibits, student performances, as well as children programs.
There will be one performance at 8:00 p.m. open to the general public at the reduced price of $15.
