Pop Culture Heroes and Celebrity Artists Featured at 2010 Book Fair

The 27th edition of the nation’s finest and largest literary gathering, Miami Book Fair International, presented by the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami Dade College (MDC), will take place November 14 - 21, 2010, at the college’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The popular Street Fair runs Friday through Sunday, Nov. 19-21 with more than 200 exhibitors from around the country selling books in a festive atmosphere. This year, the Fair will celebrate the literature and culture of Mexico. A very special guest will launch Book Fair festivities on opening night. Details will be provided soon.
In addition to a roster of literary giants, the Fair will roll out the red carpet for legendary actors, filmmakers and musical artists who have made their mark on pop culture, including Nora Ephron, John Waters, and Patti Smith. They will be discussing their new books as part of the Fair’s Evenings With... series, which will take place at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Ave., Building 3, Room 3210.
Screenwriter Nora Ephron defined the romantic comedy genre of film with When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, among many others. She will share tidbits from her latest collection of essays titled “I Remember Nothing and Other Reflections” on Monday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m.
Notorious writer/director John Waters, best known for his epic films Pink Flamingos and the 1988 hit Hairspray, will discuss his new memoir, “Role Models.” Waters’ transgressive cult films have earned him a loyal following since the 1960s. Waters will present on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m.
Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Patti Smith significantly influenced the punk rock movement with her 1975 debut album Horses. In her new memoir, Just Kids, she chronicles her early years and deep friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who died in 1989. She will share her book on Friday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m.
In addition, Nick Zinner of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs will present Please Take Me Off the Guest List, a collection of tour images shot by Zinner combined with essays written by Zachary Lipez and designed by Stacy Wakefield. Zinner will present on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m.
