Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College Organizes 10-Mile Bike Ride through Downtown Miami and Miami Beach
Miami, September 19, 2011 – The Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College (MDC) has joined forces with Emerge and 350.org and has organized Moving Planet>RIDE ON!, a 10-mile bike ride through downtown Miami and Miami Beach on Saturday, September 24, to bring attention to Miami’s reliance on fossil fuels. The MDC Moving Planet event is a part of a worldwide day of action calling for a fossil fuel-fee world, with hundreds of thousands expected to participate in nearly 2,000 events across the globe. Using all methods of fossil-fuel-free transportation, with bicycle rides ranging from 5 minutes to 350 hours, grass roots climate activists across the world will call for solutions to climate change at all levels of government, from more bike lanes in Miami-Dade County to more wind farms and solar panels across the US.
Students in the MDC Youth for Environmental Sustainability (YES) club at the Wolfson Campus have created hundreds of wearable signs, posters, and flags for participating bikers. MDC faculty, staff and students will be the core of the group, however, bike enthusiasts from Emerge and Critical Mass are joining the ride.
