Miami, August 17, 2011 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Tower Theater will show Academy Award-winner Cameron Crowe’s new documentary, Pearl Jam Twenty, an intimate look inside the rise of the legendary grunge band. This very limited engagement, co-presented by MDC’s Miami International Film Festival and its Tower Theater, will kick-off on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Pearl Jam Twenty is the definitive portrait of Pearl Jam: part concert film, part intimate insider-hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists. It chronicles the years leading up to the band’s formation, the chaos that ensued soon after their rise to fame, their reclusion from the spot light, and the trusted circle that surrounded them, giving way to a work culture that would sustain them. The film is carved from more than 1,200 hours of rare and never-before seen footage spanning the band’s career.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe's credits include Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Say Anything…(1989), Jerry Maguire (1996), and Almost Famous (2000), which was inspired by his early experiences as a young music journalist, and earned him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. His latest film, We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon, will be released this December.
