School for Advanced Studies to Hold Two Information Sessions for 10th-Graders Interested in Early College Admission Oct 15
Miami, October 13, 2011 -
School for Advanced Studies (SAS), a full-time, nationally-recognized, dual-enrollment high school located at Miami Dade College (MDC), will be holding information/application sessions on Saturday, October 15, for the 2012-2013 school year, at two MDC campuses: at 9 a.m. in the North Campus Lehman Theatre, and at 1 p.m. in room 7128 at the Wolfson Campus.
All Miami-Dade County Public Schools 10th-grade students with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are invited to apply, and may be admitted for the 11th grade upon passing the College Placement Test administered by MDC. Student selection is based solely on the order in which applicants meet the established criteria. Enrollment is limited.
Students attending SAS complete their last two years of high school while attending MDC and, in many cases, simultaneously graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from MDC.
Each semester, students enroll in a minimum of three college dual-enrollment courses, taught by MDC faculty, and four high school courses, taught by SAS faculty. All high school courses are Advanced Placement courses, except pre-calculus and research. Students receive free tuition and fees, free textbooks, and, if eligible, school bus and Metrorail transportation funded by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
School for Advanced Studies is a nationally recognized high school, ranked no. 28 by Newsweek Magazine and no. 27 by the Washington Post in their 2011 Best High School in America national ranking registry. SAS is located on four MDC campuses: Homestead, Kendall, North and Wolfson.
