Graduates of Innovative MDC/FPL Electrical Power Technology Program Take Next Step into High-Tech Energy Jobs
Highly successful program expands to include new major in Transmission and Substations Training
Miami, August 20, 2012 - Bright futures await 18 highly-skilled graduates of the Clean Energy Institute developed by Miami Dade College (MDC) and Florida Power & Light Company in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
At the August 22, hiring ceremony, FPL will officially hire 18 graduates of the Electrical Power Technology Program, presenting them with letters of employment and their first FPL hard hats. Four of the students will be the first graduates of the new transmission and substation major to be hired by FPL. FPL will also promote three employees from the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant who enhanced their skills through the Electrical Power Technology Program.
This is the fifth graduating class, which includes three tracks: mechanical, electrical and instrumentation control. After two years of training, the graduates earn an Associate in Science degree and a job offer from FPL, one of the state’s largest employers.
