Miami Dade College Galleries of Art + Design Presents Interactive Sculptures by Camilla Ancilotto
Miami, September 4, 2012 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Galleries of Art + Design (formerly the Art Gallery System) presents a collection of sculptures by Camilla Ancilotto at the Wolfson Campus Centre Gallery.
The exhibition runs Thursday, September 6 – Friday, October 5. There will be an opening reception at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, including an artist talk by Ancilotto at 6 p.m. It is free and open to the public. This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Galleria Ca d’ Oro.
Ancilotto skillfully unites traditional pictorial techniques with interactive elements to create works with lively and playful images and colors. She invites the viewer to participate both physically and thoughtfully while viewing her work.
Her sculptures are made up of various elements that rotate to interweave images and shapes from Italian artworks like those by Michelangelo or Bronzino with more contemporary icons, like United States President Barack Obama. Viewers are allowed to rotate the individual pieces into different compositions and combinations. In this way, Ancilotto has them actively collaborate in the creation of the image. Like the many faces of her cubes and prisms, there are many interpretations of her works as well.
Gallery hours: Tuesdays: by appointment; Wednesdays and Thursdays: noon – 5 p.m.; Fridays: 1 – 6 p.m. Teachers interested in class tours may call to make arrangements.
