MDC InterAmerican Campus to Host Sixth Annual Caring for Kids Child Safety Fair Oct. 13
Miami, October 8, 2012 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus (IAC) and ConnectFamilias invite everyone to attend the Sixth Annual Caring for Kids Child Safety Fair, a free event aimed at making homes and communities safer for kids. The fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. adjacent to the campus, on SW 6 Street between 27 and 25 Avenues.
“This event has been successful the past five years because it connects the community with needed resources for child safety, health and education,” said Tony Delgado, IAC Student Life director. “Most people don’t know what is available to them and this is a way to link residents to the service providers of the ConnectFamilias network and other community agencies. We are excited to host this event for a sixth year.”
The fair, free and open to the entire community, shows parents and children how to stay safe in dangerous situations. Specialists will also be available to conduct free health screenings for children ages 0-5.
“We’re teaming up with community partners. There will be entertainment, giveaways and a lot of different things going on,” said IAC Dean of Students Lourdes Perez. “There will be fire fighters explaining how to stop, drop and roll in a fire emergency, and even tips on health and wellness. It will be a fun and informative event.”
The Caring for Kids Child Safety Fair is an initiative of ConnectFamilias, which is funded by The Children’s Trust. ConnectFamilias’ mission is to establish an efficient, consistent and holistic network of coordinated services that increase the safety and well-being of children and families.
