Citi Foundation Awards Miami Dade College a Grant to Help Strengthen Small Businesses in Miami-Dade County
Miami, November 9, 2012 -
The Miami Dade College (MDC) School of Business has been awarded a grant from Citi Foundation to continue and expand the Small Business Education Program, a viable training project for small business owners and potential entrepreneurs.
The grant will help the College extend its community outreach efforts by recruiting participants from low-to-moderate income areas and offering workshops in English and Spanish. Over the past five years, the Citi Foundation has awarded the School of Business grants to be used for similar entrepreneurial-based programs that were mostly targeted to small business owners. This year’s project, which is scheduled to take place in the Spring 2013, will target businesses and potential entrepreneurs from similar locations as last year due to the overwhelming demand and success of the program: Overtown, Allapattah, Wynwood, Downtown Miami, surrounding areas, and specific areas in Miami Beach for the English track of the program and Hialeah for the Spanish track.
“We are extremely appreciative of Citi Foundation for its continued support to education. This year the participants will have the opportunity to interact with individual coaches during the last seminar offered for small business owners”, said Dr. Ana M. Cruz, Chair of the School of Business at Wolfson Campus. “The professional coaches will be available to provide assistance in different business areas, such as accounting, marketing, law, and small business operations.”
Under this grant, the School of Business will once again offer free workshops in English and Spanish covering pertinent topics, such as finance/accounting; capital resources; marketing, and customer service.
The Citi Foundation grants awarded since 2007 have enabled the College’s School of Business to offer free workshops to more than 200 entrepreneurs in the fundamentals of operating and sustaining their businesses.
