Miami Book Fair International Presents Exciting New Culinary Program, The Kitchen


Miami, November 5, 2012 - This year’s Miami Book Fair International, presented by The Center for Literature and Theatre @ Miami Dade College (MDC), features The Kitchen, a series of cooking demos and book presentations by renowned chefs, for Fairgoers to enjoy during the weekend Street Fair.


Cooking demos give food lovers a chance to see some of their favorite chefs in action and sample their tasty offerings. Hiroko Shimbo (Hiroko’s American Kitchen), Anne Byrn (Unbelievably Gluten-Free!: Dinner Dishes You Never Thought You’d Be Able to Eat Again), Raquel Roque (The Cuban Kitchen), Maricel Presilla (Gran Cocina Latina: The Food of Latin America), Liz Gutman & Jen King (The Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook: How to Make Truly Scrumptious Candy in Your Own Kitchen!) and Yvan Lemoine (Comidas USA) are all scheduled to provide free demos at the college’s Miami Culinary Institute. An additional slate of culinary stars is scheduled to present their latest books. Among the 14 chef-authors that will be presenting are Miami Culinary Institute Director of Restaurants Norman Van Aken (My Key West Kitchen: Recipes and Stories), Alex Hitz (My Beverly Hills Kitchen: Classic Southern Cooking with a French Twist), Julia Ross (The Diet Cure: The 8-Step Program to Rebalance Your Body Chemistry and End Food Cravings, Weight Gain and Mood Swings), Hedy Goldsmith (Baking Out Loud: Fun Desserts with Big Flavors), Seamus Mulen (Hero Food: How Cooking with Delicious Things Can Make Us Feel Better) and Heather McPherson (Field to Feast: Recipes Celebrating Florida Farmers, Chefs, and Artisans). In addition, the Book Fair will present a special culinary experience with chefs Norman Van Aken and Seamus Mullen at MDC’s renowned restaurant, Tuyo. The chefs will prepare dinner for guests on Saturday, November 17. Tickets are $130 and seating is limited. Call 305-237-3258 for details.


The 29th edition of the Book Fair, the nation’s finest and largest literary gathering, will take place November 11 – 18, 2012, at Miami Dade MDC’s Wolfson Campus, 300 NE Second Ave., in downtown Miami. The always-popular Street Fair runs Friday through Sunday, November 16 – 18, with more than 200 exhibitors from around the country selling books in a festive atmosphere.
