IAC Students' Snorkeling Trip with Photographer Brian F. Call

Miami, December 12, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus will showcase the beauty of underwater life as part of its student nature photography exhibit, South Florida’s Water Wonderland, at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Campus Art Gallery.

On display will be the selected pieces from student winners who participated in a campus-wide photo challenge, in collaboration with the Campus’ Student Life Department, its art institute, and its Earth Ethics Institute. The collection also features the work of nature photographer and conservationist Brian F. Call.

The acclaimed photographer accompanied the students on a snorkeling trip with Reef Roamer out of Key Largo, and offered tips and tricks. They also learned about coral reef ecology and conservation from the Earth Ethics Institute’s Michael Matthews, and snorkeled at the John Pennekamp State Park.

Brian F. Call is a well-known nature photographer and conservationist widely associated with South Florida’s natural areas and protection of the Florida panther. His work is on permanent display at the Earnest Coe Visitor Center in Everglades National Park. He has also been artist-in-residence at the Deering Estate, and has exhibited his works at Biscayne National Park, Everglades National Park, and at the First National Bank of South Miami in conjunction with the Everglades Foundation.  Brian's photographs have been published in National Wildlifeand Nature Photographer Magazine, among others.
