MDC’s Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne Jacobs Named Black History Month Honoree by Legacy Magazine

Miami, February 14, 2013 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus President Dr. Jeanne Jacobs was recently recognized as one of Legacy Magazine’s Black History Month Honorees for her 34 years of dedication and experience in higher education leadership.

“…There are everyday citizens in our own backyard who have also made advancements to become leaders in their own right. Some of South Florida’s most affluent leaders have been chosen as Black History Month Honorees this year for their influence in the black community,” sites the South Florida-based magazine, which was distributed in the Feb. 3 edition of the Miami Herald.

Dr. Jacobs has served as the Homestead Campus president since 2005. During her tenure at MDC, she has received numerous awards and recognition for her work in the community.

 In 2010, she was awarded a Congressional Record by the Honorable Mario Diaz-Balart for her achievements in education, leadership and research. She was also honored as the 2010 Outstanding Woman in Education & Research for the In the Company of Women Awards sponsored by Miami-Dade County. In 2007, she was named as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Black Women in South Florida.

 Additionally, Dr. Jacobs serves on several local community boards, including the Board of Directors of Homestead Hospital, the Executive Council of the Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce, the Homestead Educational Facilities Board and the Greater Miami Chapter of the Links, Inc.
