Miami Dade College’s Miami Culinary Institute will be the Toast of the Town during the Great Wines Americas Tour

Miami, February 1, 2013 - Miami Dade College ’s (MDC) Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) will blend its skills and techniques with the International Event and Exhibition Management (I.E.E.M.) and the International Exhibition Management (I.E.M.) as they kick off the Simply Italian: Great Wines Americas Tour 2013, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.  Students will also play a role providing support and logistics for the annual wine tour, including culinary and sommelier duties. Recognized for its cultural significance, the event has been included as part of the Italian Cultural Program 2013 by the Consulate General of Italy.

The tour will begin at MCI, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, with a series of programs including a guided tasting and seminar of Italy’s white wines at 10:30 a.m., and will later make its way to the majestic Freedom Tower, for more wine- and food-tasting. The night will then finish off with the first-ever Simply the Best Awards ceremony, presented by the Italian Council General, Mr. Adolfo Barattolo. MCI will receive some much-deserved accolades as well, as it accepts $15,000 from the I.E.E.M. for scholarships.

Distinguished experts in their respective fields will include Master Sommelier Laura De Pasquale and world-renowned Sommelier Charlie Arturaola, as well as award-winning chef, Sarah Freedman-Izquierdo.  Cuisine from local, Italian restaurants like Quattro, Slumeria 104, Toscana Divino, among others, will accompany the distinguished red and white wines from 30 different Italian wineries.

Miami Dade College's Miami Culinary Institute has the recipe for culinary excellence in the 21st century. A blend of experience and vision mixed with classic skills and innovative techniques, the Institute offers a revolutionary educational experience. The Institute offers quality food and wine programs for individuals who are passionate about the preparation and enjoyment of exceptional cuisine. Some of the world's best and most cutting-edge chefs, sommeliers and beverage producers will perform entertaining and educational demonstrations for culinary enthusiasts, as part of its Culinarium. Dynamic and inspiring, these participatory classes focus on several areas, including general culinary arts, baking and pastry, wine, health and wellness, and sustainability. Enthusiasts' events will take place in the Institute's state-of-the-art food and wine demonstration theater.
