Dallas Morning News Journalist, Selwyn Crawford, To Be Featured At March Miami Dade College Journalism Speaker Series Event
Selwyn Crawford, featured speaker during MDC Journalism Speaker Series on Mar. 15.
Miami, February 26, 2013 - Selwyn Crawford,a veteran journalist with The Dallas Morning News, will be featured at the Miami Dade College Journalism Speaker Seriesat noon, Friday, March 15, at the college’s Wolfson Campus.
Crawford, who currently serves as a Team Leader and Special Writer for the DMN, is assigned to the criminal justice cluster of the Local News section. He has previously worked at the paper as an assistant metro editor and a general assignments reporter.
He has covered courts in Tarrant County (Fort Worth) and has had several special assignments including coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the 1992 Democratic National Convention, the 1996 Summer Olympics, two Super Bowls, and he was part of a team covering the reaction to the O. J. Simpson murder trial.
A 1981 graduate of the University of Georgia, Crawford also serves as the paper’s intern coordinator. Before joining the DMN in 1988, he worked as a reporter at the Orlando Sentinel for seven years.
The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February 2008 to create an exchange and learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. To date, 45 journalists have participated in the series.
In addition to Crawford, the remaining speakers in this year’s lineup include Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Frances Robles of The New York Times, and Boston Globe political reporter, Noah Bierman.
Each program includes a presentation by the journalists and a 15-minute question and answer session.
All presentations are free and open to the public.
