MDC and St. Thomas University Create Affordable Pathway for Students to Earn Master of Communication Arts Degree

President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón and St. Thomas University President Monsignor Franklyn M. Casale

Miami, March 28, 2013 - On April 5, Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón and St. Thomas University President Monsignor Franklyn M. Casale will formalize a partnership that will usher MDC film and television students toward attaining a Master of Communication Arts degree at St. Thomas. The official cooperative signing ceremony will take place at the Science Complex at MDC’s North Campus at 11 a.m., Friday, April 5.

The much anticipated partnership will allow MDC students who have or are completing their Bachelors of Applied Science in Film, Television & Digital Production degree to enroll—at a discounted tuition rate-- in St. Thomas’ Master of Communication Arts degree program with a specialization in Electronic Media Arts. Among other benefits, MDC students will receive registration fee waivers.

Set to begin in the 2013-2014 academic year, the agreement is yet another gesture of the colleges’ dedication to helping students achieve their academic and career goals. MDC‘s 4-year degree in Film, Television & Digital Production prepares students to take the lead in the fields of media production, writing, entertainment industry research, digital technology, and marketing and distribution. Students will enter St. Thomas’ graduate program with practical hands-on experience, in-depth academic training and theoretical knowledge of digital media production.

St. Thomas’ master’s program advances MDC’s undergraduate degree by infusing communications courses with leadership, ethics, diversity, research methods and the creative process. Both institutions offer courses on various days and times in order to accommodate those students who must strike a balance between their busy daily work and study schedules. MDC and St, Thomas have long been educational partners on several endeavors.
