Miami, April 26, 2013 - For its role in making the Cultures of China & Festival of Spring concert a success, the Confucius Institute (CI) at Miami Dade College (MDC) was recently presented a recognition award from the Federation of Florida Chinese Associations (FFCA).

Led by the world-renowned Zhanyou Art Troupe, the February concert, held at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, featured a world-class display of authentic Chinese folk dance, operatic singing, live music and comedy. In addition to co-hosting a performance, the CI provided the event with much-needed logistical and promotional support, and hosted a welcoming reception for a Chinese art delegation at MDC’s Wolfson Campus.

“It’s a great recognition for the Confucius Institute, and it’s an added value to our city of Miami to see the impact of our institution on the community,” said CI Director Dr. Xuejun “Jim” Yu, after receiving the award.

The CI has long served as Miami’s cultural and academic bridge to China and a local ambassador for Chinese groups visiting South Florida. For the past three years, the Institute has hosted international award-winning Chinese artists and Chinese performing troupes in Miami, including China’s Xuzhou Normal University Performing Troupe, Nanjing University Traditional Chinese Orchestra, and Nanchang University Performing Troupe.
