Miami Dade College’s School of Science to Host White Coat Ceremony to Welcome Second Class of New Biological Sciences Bachelor’s Degree Program Sept. 26
Miami, September 25, 2013 -
To welcome its second class of four-year Biological Sciences students, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Science is hosting the White Coat Ceremony at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, at the North Campus’ Science Complex Auditorium. Students will receive their white lab coats as they walk across the stage. The event is open to Biological Science students, their family members, faculty and the working media.
Dr. Katherina Walz, acting director for the University of Miami’s Center for Modeling of Human Diseases, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Walz will share her experiences as a science professional, educator and activist and the critical relevance science education has to the future of the workforce and the broader community, both national and globally.
“The White Coat Ceremony, initiated last year with our first class of the Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, signifies and encourages academic and scientific excellence for those entering this competitive program,” said Ms. Malou C. Harrison, interim North Campus president. “Placing the lab coat on each student’s shoulders is a gift of confidence and faith in their success and commitment to the sciences.”
