MDC to Host Constitution Day at MDC-West and North Campuses, and the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Center

Miami, September 12, 2013 - Miami Dade College(MDC) will commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in a series of events at some of its different campuses, Sept. 17 & 18.

MDC-West will host a town hall meeting at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Room 1102, featuring testimonials and a question and answer session, as well as allowing guests to experience Constitutional Law as a law school applicant, student, and judge. West Chairperson Thomas T. Nguyen, Esq., will serve as moderator to a panel including Former Circuit Court Judge Peter Adrien, Associate Director of Admissions Lisa Lucena, Esq, from St. Thomas University School of Law, community leader Desmond Meade, and MDC Professor Tapia.    

North Campus will present Constitution Day: Forming a More Perfect Union at the Lehman Theater (Room 5120), beginning at 11 a.m. Panelists will include the Honorable Judge Orlando Prescott, Juvenile Division of Miami-Dade County; Honorable Jacqueline Schwartz, Civil Division of Miami-Dade County; Richard Patino, Esq. of the Patino Law Firm; and Major Delrish Moss of the City of Miami Police Department. Participants will have the opportunity to pose questions to the panel on a variety of constitutional issues. Free copies of the U.S. Constitution will be distributed.

“The U. S. Constitution is a living document that not only embodies the vision of our founding fathers, but also encompasses the cultural and social principles of our great nation. This is the day that we invite our community to collectively reflect on values such as equality, justice, freedom of expression and religion, and the right to pursue our highest potential,” said North Campus Interim President Malou C. Harrison.

The Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center will present keynote speaker, Mr. Howard Simon, Executive Director of the Florida ACLU, from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., in the first-floor Atrium.

Miami Dade College students, faculty, and staff will participate in the Constitution Day events, which are free and also open to the community.
