Jazz at Wolfson Presents Kicks Off its New Season with the MDC Jazz Faculty Quintet Sept. 25

Miami, September 9, 2013 - The Arts and Philosophy Department at Miami Dade College (MDC) begins its sixteenth season of its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents. The monthly concerts that run from September through April are free and open to the public.

September’s kick-off concert features MDC’s own Jazz Faculty Quintet. Made up of some of South Florida’s finest musicians, the MDC Jazz Faculty Quintet features saxophonist Ed Calle, guitarist Mike Di Liddo, pianist Jim Gasior, bassist Rick Doll and drummer Rodolfo Zuniga. Since its inception in 2003, the group has performed during several seasons of Jazz at Wolfson Presents. The Faculty Quintet presents original compositions and select compositions from jazz repertoire, including modern, hard bop, modal and Latin jazz styles.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities at Miami Dade College, these musicians are active in the jazz community, performing at various venues on a variety of stages throughout South Florida, the United States and the world.

“I am very excited about this season’s selection of artists,” says series director and guitarist Dr. Michael Di Liddo. “They are a diverse group of musicians that specialize in a variety of jazz music. Many of the artists will be performing original compositions and arrangements. What they bring to our college are unique jazz performances that are often difficult to hear anywhere else in the area. This month’s concert with our jazz faculty is always a lot of fun for me. My colleagues are superb musicians, truly some of south Florida’s finest.”
