Miami Dade College Kicks Off Milestone 30th Miami Book Fair International on Nov. 17 with Official Welcome by His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias

Miami, October 30, 2013 - The Miami Book Fair International (MBFI), presented by The Center for Literature and Theatre @ Miami Dade College (MDC), is celebrating its 30th anniversary with some of the world’s top authors, creators, entertainers, thinkers, and leaders. The festivities will begin with an inaugural ceremony at 5:30 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, 174 E. Flagler St., downtown Miami.

Joining in the program will be His Royal Highness The Prince of Asturias, who will officially inaugurate the Fair and address the audience. Her Royal Highness The Princess of Asturias will also attend the ceremony. Spain is the featured country at this year’s Fair.

The inaugural ceremony will also feature musical performances by Suite Hispania, a music and dance ensemble that offers an innovative interpretation to the music and dances of Spain, the New World School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, and more. The inauguration is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available at MDC Wolfson Campus’s parking garage, 500 N.E. 2nd Ave. (entrances at N.E. 5th and 6th St.), and with free shuttle service to the theater and back.   

Following the inauguration, bestselling author Dan Brown will present his new book, Inferno, at 7:30 p.m., at the Gusman Center. Ticket is $15.

Spain’s Pavilion opens to the public at 7:30 p.m., offering a taste of the literature, culture and traditions of Spain. Get a first look at La lectura en cartel, an exhibition that reflects the evolution of Spanish graphic design for books, and see the thousands of books published in Spain and shipped across the Atlantic specifically for sale in the pavilion.

In addition, Cervantes Prize-winner Jorge Edwards will discuss his new book, Los círculos morados at 8 p.m., at the Wolfson Campus Auditorium (Building 1, second floor). This event is free.   

The 30th Miami Book Fair International runs Nov. 17 – 24. The popular Street Fair, featuring hundreds of exhibitors and vendors, will take place Nov. 22 – 24.

Miami Book Fair International is the largest and finest literary gathering in America. It is the premier event of The Center for Literature and Theatre at Miami Dade College.
